  2. Great points.

It should be noted that in his "Collusion Across the Jordan," Shlaim in the same way misreads Jordan's belligerence in 1948. Efraim Karsh's intelligent analysis of Karsh's "Collusion" should render anything from Shlaim unfit for the New York Times' attention.

Counterpunch, yes. Even "The Nation". But not the New York Times.

To get a sense of Shlaim's world view: http://www.melaniephillips.com/diary/archives/Zionism%20AS.pdf

  3. Not so heartening to see Shlaim in the NYT. You do a good job of parsing through problematic points from his work.

Though much of what he says regarding King Hussein may be true this is tarnished by the untruthful assertions he makes regarding Israeli-Jordan relations.

I did not know that Shlaim had made it a point to downplay the genocidal goals of the invading Arab armies in 1948. Does he support this view in his book?

but revise: "Efraim Karsh's intelligent analysis of Karsh's "Collusion" should render anything from Shlaim unfit for the New York Times' attention."

to: Efraim Karsh's intelligent analysis of Shlaim's "Collusion" should render anything from Shlaim unfit for the New York Times' attention.

  5. Not sure if revising it would mess up the whole order of posts.

Thanks for the credit, but it was a team effort...you made the coffee.
