For Media, "Death Wins"

"Israel Puts Media Clamp on Gaza"
A13, Wednesday 1/7/09
By Ethan Bronner

For the media, “given a choice between covering death and covering context, death wins,” concedes Ethan Bronner. Yet Bronner doesn’t go far enough to address the deep concerns Israel has with media coverage of this conflict. It’s not simply that the media chooses to cover death – notably Palestinian death – but how it covers it. Not only has the media failed to convey the depths to which Hamas sacrifices human life in its PR war against Israel, but it has depicted Israel’s policies towards Palestinians as villainous.

The media's persistent glossing over the Palestinian death industry, coupled with its defamation of Israel has helped fueled hatred of Israel and Jews worldwide. Furthermore, it plays entirely into the trap set by Israel’s enemies. This is what Israel recognizes. Yet Bronner doesn’t pick this up. For him, it’s only a case of Israeli politics and military strategy. How shallow and predictable.
